THE FUTURE OF WORK

I recently attended the WCEI Women Chiefs of Enterprise International panel discussion on the ‘Future of Work’. This event was thought provoking and provided insight and robust discussion on the disruptive economy, AI and the changing nature of businesses and employment opportunities.
We were fortunate to have a well known ABC reporter as the Panel Moderator, Nicole Chettle, ABC Reporter and Journalist. Nicole was excellent and entertaining as she conducted a meaningful discussion with diverse panel members including;
- Dr Anne Wiggins, Innovation Mentor, CSIRO and Lecturer, Sydney University
- Rebecca Saunders, Entrepreneur and Video Strategist, The Deli Agency
- Sandra Triulzi, WCEI member and past Chair, eS4W (Economic Security 4 Women)
In its recent report on the future of work, CSIRO suggests that Australia faces ‘a perfect storm’ of conditions that are unprecedented in our labour force history, namely:
- After 2020, the impact of emerging technologies will become significant particularly in regard to job automation;
- The nature of businesses and work as the ‘peer-to-peer’ (P2P) economy and platform marketplaces ascend in prominence and disrupt traditional business and employment models;
- The need to build ‘agility’ into business models to thrive in an era of unprecedented opportunity.
As for many entrepreneurs, some of the topics discussed and at the top of many agendas include;
- Are you feeling the impact of the disruptive economy and platform marketplace on your business?
- What steps are you taking to future-proof your business security, financial security and wellbeing?
- How ‘agile’ is your business operating model?
I look forward to sharing further information about these important topics, how we can prepare and future proof our careers and businesses to embrace the changing nature of business and employment.
