Hiring-Success

Despite the current local and global economic challenges we’re all experiencing as a result of the COVID pandemic, we are still seeing many employers in a range of industry sectors struggling to find the right people for job roles. The ability to fill roles quickly and have available talent ready to go for the next job vacancy or multiple project based roles is critical for organisations who need to ramp up quickly to meet demand. We are seeing a continued need for talent in Construction, Building Services, Supply Chain and Logistics, Manufacturing, Technology, Health and Professional Services.

On the flip side, the current crisis is also creating an increased number of people actively looking for work as a result of the sharp decline in trading for sectors hit hard by the unprecedented economic challenges, including Hospitality and Events, Travel, Aviation, Retail and Sport.

In today’s climate we are seeing a huge increase in the number of people looking for work. Our talent network has increased by 160% over the past 6 months. The Australian job market rapidly shifted from a low unemployment rate of 5.3% in 2019 to an increasingly higher unemployment rate of 7.5% in July 2020, the highest since November 1998.

Maintaining reliable communication with talent networks and building relationships is always critical, regardless of the economic climate or unemployment rate. Preparing for the future upturn in the economy and for busy sectors, meeting immediate and future talent demands are at the top of the agenda for most business leaders.

Here are our top tips for keeping in touch with job seekers and candidates ready for their next career move;

  • Keep in regular contact with candidate networks by sharing relevant information specific to their skills set and industry sector
  • Take a genuine interest in candidates. It’s valuable to really understand their skills, career goals and background to match people with the right employer and job role.
  • Brief coffee catch ups or zoom meetings are helpful to keep in touch with candidates and keep up to date with their career plans
  • Provide valuable and honest advice to help support candidates with their job search and interviews
  • Don’t forget about Job seekers who couldn’t be hired immediately. Keep in regularly contact over the years not just weeks.
  • Have meaningful discussions with candidates to increase engagement. Share industry insights and talk about employer brand, culture and their Story not just the Position Description.
  • Introduce a ‘Candidate Care’ approach to help you build respectful relationships with talent network to build trust and engagement
